Vadim Perelman has established himself as a modern cinema auteur. With his deep background in shooting films, television and commercials, Perelman is one of the world’s most innovative and sought-after filmmakers.
Perelman’s personal history and creative background is unique. His early work includes directing some of the most challenging and large scale commercials and award-winning music videos. Starting to direct in his early 20’s he has assembled a list of clients such as Microsoft, General Motors, Panasonic, Nike, AT&T, Sony Playstation, Coors, MasterCard, James Brown, and Kelly Clarkson to name just a few a few.
Vadim was on a commercial location shoot in Rome when he first came across the book House of Sand and Fog. He bought it in an airport bookstore. After reading it on the plane, and before Oprah anointed it to be part of her book club, Vadim knew immediately that it was the perfect project with which to make his debut in feature films. But this would be no ordinary process as Perelman the producer and entrepreneur paid to control the property with his own funds, wrote a screenplay on spec that quickly attracted Oscar winners Sir Ben Kingsley and Jennifer Connelly. Soon after he managed to attract a stellar crew, including such masters of their trade and Oscars winners as cinematographer Roger Deakins and composer James Horner. With this dream package in-hand Perelman sought out investors in the foreign markets and made an unprecedented deal with DreamWorks Pictures. Vadim’s directorial, screenwriting and producing debut became a critically acclaimed, three-time Oscar-nominated movie in 2004.
In creating The Life Before Her Eyes, his second feature, starring Uma Thurman and Evan Rachel Wood, Perelman once again purchased the rights to the book for 2929 Films and guided its development to the big screen as producer and director.
Perelman has since been involved as a writer/director in bringing to the screen of some of our most important works of literature, including the film adaptation of Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged and Lois Lowry’s The Giver. In television, Perelman has been the creative force in the development of groundbreaking projects, such as ICE, a dramatic series developed with AMC Network, a cultural and generational epic set in the world of the global diamond industry.
